Graduation Requirements
All courses in the student’s graduate program must be completed with a grade of “C” or better. No course taken more than 7 years prior to the date of which all requirements for the degree are completed may be counted as part of the 30 units in the degree program. No time limit applies to courses taken to satisfy Data Science M.S. prerequisite requirements.
- Completion of a minimum of 30 semester units of approved graduate courses;
- Completion of all course work with a GPA of at least 3.0;
- Completion of a Culminating Graduate Project;
- Students must be fully classified at the time of graduation.
Steps Required to Complete Your Degree
Conditionally Classified Graduate (GRAD) Status
In order to achieve fully classified graduate standing, students will need:
- Approval of a program of study plan by an assigned faculty advisor.
- Approval by the department graduate coordinator/program academic lead.
It is important to achieve full Classified standing prior to completing 12 units of graduate work.
Classified Graduate Status
Students who meet all University and departmental requirements as outlined in the current catalog.
Requirements for Classified Status
To attain fully classified graduate status in the program, students must complete any required prerequisite undergraduate material and have a 3.0 GPA for all work completed as a conditionally classified student. Information about the prerequisite material can be obtained from the academic lead.
Graduation with Honors
Students who satisfy all program requirements and maintain a grade point average of 3.885 or higher on their coursework will receive their degrees with distinction. The notation "with distinction" is posted on the transcript and will appear on the diploma.
Applying for the Degree
Upon successful completion of all course work and requirements, students must indicate the semester in which they plan to take the comprehensive exam. The application for graduation must be sent to the program coordinator with a check in the amount of $47, payable to CSUN.
Reinstatement to the Program
If a student withdraws from a cohort, s(he) may be admitted to another cohort at a later date. The reinstated student will be assessed the same tuition and nonrefundable fees as apply to all other students in the new cohort.
Note: All cohorts, once begun, will be taught out through to completion. However, there is no guarantee that new cohorts will follow in a specific area or within a specific amount of time.

CPU 13th Gen Intel, AMD 7000 Ryzen or higher, RAM memory 16 GB or higher, Storage 1 TB, NVIDIA GPU 6 GB VRAM or higher.
